Vercel vs Netlify: which serverless platform should you deploy on in 2026?
The Vercel vs Netlify decision comes down to two $20/month Pro plans as of October 2026: Netlify Pro includes unlimited team members and 3,000 usage credits, while Vercel Pro is billed per developer seat and adds $20 of monthly usage credit.
What matters
- Both paid tiers list at $20 per month: Vercel Pro is $20 per developer seat, and Netlify Pro is $20 with unlimited members.
- Netlify meters usage in credits: a production deploy costs 15 credits, bandwidth costs 20 credits per GB, and extra credits run $5 per 500.
- Vercel Pro bundles $20 of monthly usage credit plus a flat-rate CDN, and Hobby includes 1M CDN requests and 100 GB of transfer per month.
- Netlify Personal at $9 per month is the cheapest paid entry point when one person runs the project.
- Deno Deploy, a third independent option until now, will shut down after six months, Deno announced on October 9, 2026.
What are Vercel and Netlify?
Vercel is a frontend cloud for deploying web apps and static sites, built around the Next.js framework and a global CDN. Netlify is a comparable platform-as-a-service that builds and deploys projects from a Git repository, an AI coding tool, or an API call.
Both run JavaScript on edge networks, support serverless functions and managed databases, and replaced older per-feature pricing with usage-based plans. The difference is the meter. Vercel charges per developer seat and credits usage against a monthly allowance, while Netlify charges one flat plan price and draws deploys, compute, bandwidth, and requests from a single credit pool.
Vercel vs Netlify pricing: two $20 Pro plans
Vercel's pricing page lists three tiers: Hobby ($0), Pro ($20 per developer seat per month), and Enterprise (custom). Pro adds $20 of included usage credit each month, a flat-rate CDN with traffic-spike protection, cold-start prevention, and free viewer seats for people who only need to review deployments.
Netlify's page lists four: Free ($0, with a 300-credit monthly limit), Personal ($9 per month with 1,000 credits), Pro ($20 per month with unlimited members, starting at 3,000 credits), and Enterprise (custom). Netlify's own FAQ states that credit-based Pro plans no longer charge for any seat, so a ten-person team pays the same $20 base as a single developer.
How the usage meters compare
Netlify prices everything in credits. A production deploy costs 15 credits, compute costs 10 credits per GB-hour, bandwidth costs 20 credits per GB, and web requests cost 2 credits per 10,000. When a plan runs dry, auto-recharge buys extra credits at $5 per 500 or $10 per 1,500, and it ships disabled by default. Pro also includes three concurrent builds, with additional build slots at $40 each.
Vercel works differently. Pro includes $20 of usage credit each month and then bills consumption at published rates, among them $0.105 per minute for Turbo build machines and $0.0035 per CPU-minute for custom elastic machines. On Vercel's comparison table the Hobby tier includes 1M CDN requests and 100 GB of fast data transfer per month, and Pro moves delivery onto its flat-rate CDN so a traffic spike does not turn into a bandwidth invoice.
Which platform should you choose?
- Pick Vercel if you build on Next.js and want the closest framework integration, or if unpredictable traffic is your main worry: Pro's flat-rate CDN absorbs spikes without per-GB billing.
- Pick Netlify if you run a larger team. Pro includes unlimited members at $20, and one credit pool is easier to forecast than a mix of seat fees and per-request charges.
- Pick Netlify Personal at $9 if you are a solo developer who has outgrown the free tier but does not need team seats or the longest analytics history.
- Stay on either free tier while prototyping. Vercel Hobby allows 1M CDN requests and 100 GB of transfer per month; Netlify Free caps at 300 credits per month.
What the Deno Deploy shutdown changes
On October 9, 2026, Ryan Dahl announced that the entire Deno team is joining Cloudflare. In the same post Deno said Deno Deploy will keep operating for six months before shutting down, with migration support for paying customers moving to Cloudflare Workers, and that Deno runtime development will end after one year.
That leaves Vercel and Netlify as the two independent platforms for teams that do not want to standardize on Cloudflare Workers. Deno Deploy customers who want a neutral home can move a Git repository or a framework build to either platform without rewriting their app.
The honest catch
Neither $20 tier is a flat bill. Netlify charges 20 credits per GB of bandwidth, so 150 GB of egress would consume a full 3,000-credit Pro pool before any deploys or compute. Vercel's seat price is only the base too: build minutes, function time, and image work bill on top of the $20 usage credit, and its own spend management exists precisely because overage is possible.
If your project is a PHP or WordPress site rather than a JavaScript app, skip both. A conventional host such as Hostinger or Cloudways runs PHP directly for less money, and our best web hosting guide covers those plans in detail.

FAQ
Is Netlify cheaper than Vercel?
It can be. Netlify's paid entry plan is Personal at $9 per month, while Vercel's first paid tier is Pro at $20 per developer seat. Both Pro plans list at $20 per month, but Netlify includes unlimited members while Vercel bills per seat, so larger teams pay more on Vercel.
Does Vercel have a free plan?
Yes. Vercel's Hobby plan costs $0 and includes 1M CDN requests and 100 GB of fast data transfer per month, plus automatic CI/CD, a Web Application Firewall, and Fluid compute, which Vercel describes as a starting place for personal projects.
What happens to Deno Deploy now that Deno is joining Cloudflare?
Deno announced on October 9, 2026 that Deno Deploy will keep operating for six months before shutting down, with migration support for paying customers moving to Cloudflare Workers. Teams that want an independent alternative can move to Vercel or Netlify from the same Git repository.
