Hostinger VPS Pricing: What Do You Actually Pay After the First Term?
Hostinger VPS pricing is $6.49/mo for KVM 1 on a prepaid term, then $11.99/mo at renewal, an 85% jump. KVM 2 goes from $8.99 to $14.99, KVM 4 from $12.99 to $28.99, and KVM 8 from $25.99 to $49.99, per Hostinger's pricing page on October 18, 2026.
What matters
- Every rate on Hostinger's VPS page is prepaid: the page states plans are paid upfront and the monthly figure is the term total divided by its months.
- Renewal is printed inside each plan card, and the jump is not uniform: KVM 1 rises 85%, KVM 2 67%, KVM 4 123%, KVM 8 92%.
- KVM 4 is the worst value at renewal, going from $12.99 to $28.99/mo, more than double the introductory rate.
- At 8 GB of RAM, Hostinger's $14.99 renewal still undercuts DigitalOcean's 8 GiB Basic Droplet at $48/mo, so the renewal price is not automatically a bad deal.
- Hostinger's cheapest VPS has 4 GB of RAM. If 1 GB is enough, DigitalOcean's $6/mo Droplet costs half of Hostinger's renewal floor.
How Hostinger VPS pricing works
Hostinger shows three numbers per plan and only two of them are prominent. The struck-through figure is list price ($19.49 for KVM 1), the large figure is the promotional rate ($6.49), and the small line underneath carries the number that matters later: Renews at $11.99/mo for 2 years.
The pricing page also states, in the fine print below the plan grid, that all plans are paid upfront and that the monthly rate is the total plan price divided by the number of months in the plan. That single sentence changes how you should read $6.49. It is not a monthly bill you can stop next month. It is a multi-month commitment, amortized for display.
The advertised discounts land between 63% and 70% off list: 67% on KVM 1, 63% on KVM 2, 70% on KVM 4, 65% on KVM 8. The percentages check out against the struck-through prices. The term length itself is not printed on the page, so confirm it at checkout before you commit, because the effective cash outlay depends entirely on how many months you are prepaying.
Hostinger VPS plans and renewal prices
Four KVM plans were listed on October 18, 2026. All four run on AMD EPYC processors with NVMe storage and a dedicated IPv4 address.
The pattern worth noticing is that the discount is not proportional. KVM 4 gets the deepest advertised cut (70% off) and also the steepest renewal increase, which is the classic shape of a promo aimed at the tier buyers choose after they outgrow the entry plan.
- KVM 1: $6.49 intro, $11.99 renewal. Over the two-year renewal term Hostinger quotes, that is $287.76.
- KVM 2: $8.99 intro, $14.99 renewal, a 67% rise. The smallest absolute increase, and the tier Hostinger marks as most popular.
- KVM 4: $12.99 intro, $28.99 renewal. More than doubles, +$16/mo.
- KVM 8: $25.99 intro, $49.99 renewal, a 92% rise on a plan that already carries serious monthly cost.
If you budget from the promo rate alone, KVM 4 is the trap: the renewal bill is 2.2x the number you signed up for.
What every KVM plan includes
The included features are identical across tiers, which makes the plan choice purely about CPU, RAM, disk and bandwidth. Per Hostinger's pricing page, each KVM VPS ships with:
- A dedicated IP address, so firewall rules can be scoped to your server.
- Free weekly backups.
- NVMe SSD storage and AMD EPYC cores.
- 1 Gbps network speed.
- A free domain for the first year.
- A 30-day money-back guarantee.
- Firewall management, a public API, and a browser-based AI web terminal.
- Malware scanning.
Two details in that list are easy to skim past. Backups are weekly, not daily, so a site that changes several times a day can still lose most of a week. And the free domain runs for one year, after which it renews at the registrar's normal rate, a cost that sits outside the VPS bill.
Hostinger VPS vs DigitalOcean at equal RAM
Raw monthly prices mislead here, because the two vendors sell different shapes of server and different billing models. Hostinger's entry plan has 4 GB of RAM; DigitalOcean's entry Basic Droplet has 512 MiB. Normalize by RAM and the picture sharpens.
DigitalOcean's Basic Droplets, per its pricing page, list hourly rates alongside monthly caps: 512 MiB at $4/mo, 1 GiB at $6/mo, 2 GiB at $12/mo, 2 GiB with 2 vCPUs at $18/mo, 4 GiB at $24/mo, 8 GiB with 4 vCPUs at $48/mo, and 16 GiB with 8 vCPUs at $96/mo. Transfer allowances scale with the plan, from 500 GiB on the 512 MiB Droplet to 5 TB on the 8 GiB one.
At comparable memory, Hostinger's renewal price wins clearly:
- 4 GB: Hostinger $11.99/mo at renewal against $24/mo at DigitalOcean, roughly half.
- 8 GB: $14.99 against $48/mo, about 69% less.
- 16 GB: $28.99 against $96/mo for 16 GiB with 8 vCPUs.
The exception sits at the bottom of the range. If 1 GB and 25 GB of SSD are enough for a small bot or a static site, DigitalOcean charges $6/mo and Hostinger has nothing to sell you below $11.99 at renewal.
The billing model matters as much as the number. DigitalOcean publishes an hourly rate for every row, so the 8 GiB Droplet costs $0.07143/hr and a ten-day trial runs $17.14 before the $48 monthly cap applies. Hostinger's VPS rates are prepaid term prices, so the money leaves your account up front and the flexibility you give up is real, not theoretical. A project that might be dead in six weeks is a poor fit for a multi-month prepay, no matter how good the amortized rate looks. The 30-day money-back guarantee is the only exit, and it is a window, not a cancellation policy.
The two-year bill, which is the number to compare
Anyone can match an intro price. What separates these two vendors is what the second term costs, and Hostinger quotes renewal on a two-year term, which makes the arithmetic simple:
- 4 GB: Hostinger $287.76 over two years, DigitalOcean $576. Difference: $288.24.
- 8 GB: Hostinger $359.76, DigitalOcean $1,152. Difference: $792.24.
- 16 GB: Hostinger $695.76, DigitalOcean $2,304 for 16 GiB with 8 vCPUs. Difference: $1,608.24.
Frame the decision that way and two things become obvious. First, Hostinger's renewal prices are not the gouge the jump percentages suggest, because DigitalOcean is not cheaper at equal memory at any tier. Second, the savings shrink in relative terms as you go up: the 8 GB gap is 69% of DigitalOcean's price, the 16 GB gap is the same 70% band, while the 4 GB gap is only half. The entry tier is where Hostinger's value is thinnest.
Those figures exclude what you pay for the first prepaid term, since Hostinger does not print its term length on the pricing page and the first invoice depends on which term you pick at checkout.
Which Hostinger VPS plan to buy
Buy on the renewal price, not the promo price, then ask whether the tier still makes sense.
KVM 1 (1 vCPU, 4 GB, 50 GB NVMe): one small application, a self-hosted tool, a monitoring agent, or a low-traffic site with a database. At $11.99 renewal it is still cheaper than DigitalOcean's 4 GB Droplet. If you cannot name what will consume 4 GB, you are overbuying.
KVM 2 (2 vCPU, 8 GB, 100 GB NVMe): the plan most buyers should start with, and the only tier where the renewal jump is under 70%. Two cores and 8 GB handle a handful of sites, a small API plus its database, or a build runner.
KVM 4 (4 vCPU, 16 GB, 200 GB NVMe): justified only by a workload you can already measure, such as a database that will not fit in 8 GB or parallel build jobs. This is the tier with the 123% renewal jump, so model the second-term cost before choosing it.
KVM 8 (8 vCPU, 32 GB, 400 GB NVMe): at $49.99 renewal it still lands below DigitalOcean's 16 GiB Droplet at $96/mo. For memory-heavy self-hosting, it is the strongest price-to-RAM position in Hostinger's lineup.
Where the pricing hurts
Four caveats, all visible on the vendor's own pages rather than inferred:
- No small tier. Hostinger's VPS range starts at 4 GB. Buyers who need 1 GB have to pay for capacity they will not use or go elsewhere.
- Prepay only. The page describes upfront payment with the monthly rate as a division of the term total. There is no hourly option and no mid-term resize path described on the pricing page.
- Renewal is quoted, not locked. The $11.99, $14.99, $28.99 and $49.99 figures are what Hostinger states today for the next two-year term. They are not a contractual ceiling on future terms.
- Weekly backups. Adequate for a blog, thin for anything transactional.
None of this makes Hostinger a bad buy. It makes the correct comparison the two-year cost rather than the first invoice, which is exactly the number the plan cards de-emphasize.

FAQ
Is Hostinger VPS really $6.49 a month?
Only as an amortized prepaid rate. Hostinger states that VPS plans are paid upfront and that the monthly figure is the total plan price divided by the number of months in the term, so $6.49 for KVM 1 is what the term works out to per month, not a cancellable monthly subscription.
How much does Hostinger VPS cost after renewal?
Hostinger lists renewal at $11.99/mo for KVM 1, $14.99/mo for KVM 2, $28.99/mo for KVM 4 and $49.99/mo for KVM 8, quoted on a two-year term as of October 18, 2026. That is an 85%, 67%, 123% and 92% increase respectively over the intro rates.
Is Hostinger VPS cheaper than DigitalOcean?
At equal RAM, yes. Hostinger's 8 GB plan renews at $14.99/mo against $48/mo for DigitalOcean's 8 GiB Basic Droplet, and its 16 GB plan at $28.99 against $96. Below 4 GB there is no Hostinger VPS, and DigitalOcean's 1 GiB Droplet at $6/mo is half the price of Hostinger's cheapest renewal.
